Avery's first Barbie doll

Last week, Avery received her first Barbie doll. I was so excited when I opened this gift! I know Avery and I will have fun playing Barbies together, just like my sister and I did. I'm extra glad that the Barbie is a brunette! :o)
Thanks so much, Debbie! We love the doll, and we're so glad we got to spend some time with you!

Five years of wedded bliss

It's hard to believe that we were married five years ago today. Where has the time gone? To commemorate the occasion, I want to share some of my favorite wedding pictures.

Here is the formal wedding picture.

This photo really captures a special moment at the reception. Chris' mom surprised him by having the entire wedding party line up and blow whistles when we entered the reception. We were so excited to see that our photographer got this great photo of that fun moment.

Just after our wedding, our church was preparing its annual outreach calendar. I was working on the committee, and they asked if I would volunteer one of our wedding photos for one of the months. I was happy to oblige! So this photo of us graced the calendar that was distributed all over Greenwood that year!

This artistic shot was taken at the gazebo at our reception site. This is one of my most favorite pictures from the day. Chris, thank you for five wonderful years together. I still can't believe we found each other. You're the perfect match for me, and I'm so glad God brought us together. I love you!

Our first family photo

As promised, here is our first official family photo, taken when Avery was four weeks old. Notice the little smile we were lucky enough to capture.
And of course we had to get a photo of Avery by herself.

Who's who?

Ever since Avery was born, we've been trying to figure out who she resembles more. While we can see parts of ourselves in her, we came to the conclusion that she is simply a nice combination of the two of us. Then last week Chris' mom showed us some of his earliest baby pictures. And we realized that Avery really looks like Chris when he was a baby. We're talking nearly a spitting image! Not only does she look like him, she mimics some of his arm positions and expressions, too. (By the way, Chris is six weeks old in these pictures.) So take a look and tell us what you think. Can you tell who's who? One thing's for sure: Chris can't deny that Avery is his daughter!

Having a daughter is so special!

In the delivery room when the doctor announced, "It's a girl," Chris and I were pretty surprised. We both were expecting a boy, and I honestly was hoping for a boy. I just never pictured myself being the mother of a daughter. I'm the farthest thing from a "girly girl," and I didn't think I could handle all of the things that come with having a girl, like frilly pink dresses, hair accessories and all of the melodrama. (By the way, Chris already calls Avery a drama queen. We're going to be in trouble in a few years!)
Of course, things have changed since I met Avery nearly six weeks ago. I'm so glad she's a part of our lives now! But I'm still getting used to the fact that I have a daughter. When I feel a little down or overwhelmed, I just think about how special my relationship is with my mother. I hope to have the same thing with Avery.
Also I've been compiling this list of things I'm looking forward to doing with Avery. Some of them will be special because only a daughter can do them. And some of them will be special just because I'm doing them with Avery.
Here's the beginning of the list. I'm sure I'll add to it for the next 18 years! :o)
  • Brownie and Girl Scout activities
  • Father/daughter dances at church
  • Going to BSF together
  • Shopping for special occasion dresses
  • Mother/daughter Bible studies at church
  • Watching her play sports
  • Playing Barbies
  • Playing with an Easy Bake Oven
  • Planning her wedding

P.S. This post also made me realize that I need to step out from behind the camera and get some more pictures of me with Avery!
